CONTRIBUTION OF “KURIKULUM MERDEKA” TOWARDS STUDENTS' CRITICAL THINKING ABILITY IN SOCIAL SCIENCES SUBJECTS AT SMP NEGERI 1 PADANG

Abstract

This study attempts to reveal the contribution of the independent curriculum to students' critical thinking skills in social science subjects at SMP Negeri 1 Padang. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which the independent curriculum contributes to students' critical thinking skills, to find out how students' critical thinking skills can increase with the contribution of the independent learning curriculum to social science subjects. This study is descriptive quantitative in nature which does not examine hypotheses but only describes what a variable, symptom/condition is. The population in this study were 158 students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 1 Padang. To obtain the desired results, a data collection technique was used using a questionnaire, which is a technique or way of collecting data indirectly (the researcher does not directly ask and answer questions with respondents). The data collection instrument or tool contains a number of statements that must be answered or responded to by respondents. Data analysis is obtained by calculating percentages. The results of the data processing carried out indicate that the contribution of the independent curriculum to students' critical thinking skills in social science subjects is as follows: The contribution of the independent curriculum to students' critical thinking skills is carried out well and students achieve each indicator of critical thinking skills in the sense that the independent curriculum contributes to students' critical thinking skills.
