Abstract

The focus of the research is on how Middle School (SMP) educational institutions, particularly those in the form of boarding schools (pesantren), develop an integrated national curriculum. SMP includes several mandatory subjects in the national curriculum, and pesantren also encompass obligatory subjects consisting of yellow book collections and programs for Islamic way of life familiarization (habituasi). In reality, there are several challenges in harmonizing various developmental needs to produce a curriculum development suitable for the goal of developing an integrated national curriculum based on Islamic humanistic principles in pesantren. The research is conducted using the Research and Development (R&D) Plomp approach, which involves five steps to develop a model for achieving a valid, effective, and practical integrated national curriculum based on Islamic humanistic principles in pesantren. The research subject is SMP Pesantren Sabbihisma, which envisions creating students who are well-mannered (santun) and knowledgeable ('alim). The development result is an Islamic humanistic-based national curriculum at Pesantren Sabbihisma, constituting a whole curriculum (24 hours) with 95% validation and practicality test results achieving a student mastery rate of 91%, categorized as very practical. In the effectiveness test, the model of developing an integrated national curriculum based on Islamic humanistic principles at Pesantren Sabbihisma attains a percentage of 87.5%, falling into the highly effective category.
