THE EFFECTIVENESS OF “GALERY WALK TECHNIQUE” TOWARDS STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY AT EIGHT GRADE OF MTSN 2 PADANG PARIAMAN

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out the effectiveness of the “Gallery Walk Technique” on students' speaking ability at MTsN 2 Padang Pariaman in transactional texts. Gallery walk is a learning technique that is assisted by using media such as flip carts. The way to use this technique is by sticking the gallery on the blackboard, then students will walk in front of the class. This research is categorized as quasi-experimental with a post-test only. The population of this study was the eighth-grade with total 204 students. The total sample was 56 students, which were classified into experimental class and controlled class. The sample was chosen through cluster random sampling. The primary instruments of this study were oral tests. The data from both classes were analyzed for normality and homogeneity using SPSS 29, and then the researcher analyzed the t-test using a formula. The result of the mean score in the post-test revealed a significant difference between the two classes. The experimental class got 75.64, while the controlled class got 67.54. The test of hypothesis showed that tcalculate (6,126) is bigger than ttable (2,0048). The use of the gallery walk technique was effective in improving students’ speaking abilities.
