THE IMPLEMENTATION OF “ENGLISH CLUB” AS EXTRACURRICULAR IN TEACHING SPEAKING: A CASE STUDY AT TENTH GRADE OF SMAN 1 TANJUNG RAYA

The difficulty of speaking English happened many of schools in Indonesia. One of them was SMAN 1 Tanjung Raya. Teacher teaching strategies are one of the causes of language difficulties. Therefore, English club as extracurricular was formed to overcome the problems. This research aims to explain the way of teacher teaching speaking in English club at SMAN 1 Tanjung Raya. Qualitative method with case study approach was use in this research. The researcher used observations, interviews and documentation to answer the formulation of research. Observations were made during the implementation of activities in English. Then, interviews have also been conducted to teacher and students who involved in the English club using snowball sampling technique. The trustworthiness of the data was obtained by using triangulation technique. The last, was documentation to support statement above. This research has found that the teachers have taken an optimal approach during teaching in the English club. Students become more comfortable with English because united by a community of learners who have the same goal of improving English language skills. This sense of community also increased motivation and engagement and last the learning outcomes of students who have joined the English club provide a very good impact.
