THE STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN LEARNING ENGLISH DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC

This study aims to find out the difficulties faced by students in learning English during the Covid pandemic at grade 7 SMPN 10 Padang. This is a descriptive research method that employs a quantitative approach. The subjects of this study were 7th grade students from SMPN 10 Padang, with the researcher selecting 54 individuals from 270 students. The researcher employed a questionnaire to collect the difficulties students had while studying English during the Covid pandemic in order to obtain the research data. The questionnaire was distributed by using Google Form that was distributed to students and instructors via WA. The findings of this study, Children struggle with learning English vocabulary, pronouncing words correctly, and comprehending grammar due to a number of internal and environmental factors. In SMP 10 Kota Padang, teachers used two strategies to help students who had trouble studying English during the Covid epidemic. These strategies included giving pupils immediate rewards to boost their enthusiasm to learn English and subsequently improve grades.
